Several years ago I had the awesome privilege to meet Jess. His family came for Theraplay. Jess has been a gift to my counseling ministry. He has helped present to graduate classes at Harding University on the subject of Asperger's and is currently a student there. If you are interested in the benefits of Theraplay for treating Asperger's, please give me a call at 870-238-4329. Thanks and God Bless, Millie Lace, MSE, LPC The following is submitted by Jess. Please email him for any questions you may have. See below:
What is Aspergers? What is Aspergers? One symptom is when someone shies away from a certain group of people, not sure if he/she is comfortable around them. That’s half of my side of the story. Sometimes I don’t feel accepted in a group. Sometimes I think I should just “buzz off” and leave them alone. I felt alone for a while and then finally I said, “Who cares about what they think?” I’ll grow up to be a known cartoonist and an Asperger’s speaker! That finally cheered me up and later on I would burst out of this cocoon and fly! I joined my school’s drama club my freshman year of high school and acted in the play that year. Later that year, I tried out for Concert Choir and I made it!! And if that wasn’t enough, I tried out for All-Region Choir too and made 18th chair my first semester in class! To top it all off, I got a main part in the school play that following month. Suddenly, I just went out of my way to talk to people. One think I accomplished was my eye contact to another person. The only way you’re going to get as far as I did is if you practice “baby steps”. That’s my motto!
